“Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; His greatness no one can fathom” (Psalm 145:3).

I always carry my red tote bag when I visit my grandchildren, and they know that bag holds snacks and special activities. I’ve done this since they were babies, and, at ages six and eight, they run out to meet me when I arrive. The first thing they do? Look in the bag! It warms my heart, and it’s become a sweet tradition, but, recently I said with a smile, “I hope you don’t just love me for my snacks.”

When I think of my Holy Father who generously sends provision and blessings, it’s easy to be thankful. But, as I thank Him for what He does, do I also remember to praise Him for who He is? This verse reminds me that His greatness is beyond my understanding. Sometimes we have hard seasons. We may be waiting for answers. Discouragement may cause us to feel like He no longer brings His “red bag” of blessings. In those times, will I still praise Him spontaneously and passionately? I am reminded to be deliberate about praise. I love all the “goodies,” but I love the Giver of Good gifts more (James 1:17).

Father, help me to remember to praise You for who You are, even as I thank You for all the good things you’ve brought into my life. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
